SYNOPSIS:

Smart, beautiful and headstrong Alexis is the ex-girlfriend of Dustin. Dustin is devasted and desperate to win Alexis back and decides to seek his best friend, Tank for help. Tank is a rebound specialist who is often hired by freshly dumped guys to make their ex-girlfriend experience their worse dating scene ever! However when Tank meets Alexis for the first time, he ends up being attracted to Alexis and finds himself torn between his best friend Dustin and his love for Alexis...

MOVIE REVIEW:

Even before the release of "My Best Friend’s Girl", leading man Dane Cook gave a thrashing of its sub-par poster artwork on his official blog. That blab was much funnier than the movie itself. If this is a viral way to hype a movie, I guess Mr Cook deserves a round of applause.

Cook plays Tank Turner, a customer service officer by day and doubles as a rebound specialist with a 'gasp!' conscious (he works through referral in case you are wondering). By rebound specialist, it means he plays the role of a jerk. You get hired by guys who just got off a relationship and you give their ex-girlfriends a bad date experience hoping that they will return to their former boyfriends. There are no jobs that the smug-looking Tank couldn’t accomplish till his roommate Dustin (Jason Biggs) hired him to date Alexis (Kate Hudson), a woman he finds hard to resist and fall in love eventually.

The Jordan Cahan’s script unlike the usual barrage of Apatow’s brand of sexual, naughty comedies fails to ignite or touches one’s heart. It tries so hard to entertain the audience with a whole slew of sexual humour and to make things worse, Cook’s excessive improvisations on set doesn’t help either unless you are the guilty one with an impetuous appetite to crack naughty jokes at your friends’ gathering. Even though there are scenes that actually work for example Tank’s conversation with Alexis during a training session and a laugh-inducing Jesus-theme pizza place sequence. Unfortunately these are few and far to salvage this 90 minutes comedy.

The rest of the cast doesn’t stand out that well with Kate Hudson in her usual 'chick-flick' mode while Jason Biggs for the umpteen times, incarnates from his character in "American Pie" with the exception of Alec Baldwin in a minor role as a lusty professor and father of Tank.

The chunk of "My Best Friend’s Girl" relies solely on Dane Cook’s bad-boy, foul-mouth image. It’s a build up of his stand-up comedian persona but just doesn’t gel well on the big screens especially with a script that smells liked a half-baked attempt at rom-com.
